His father was Dr Alexander Macalister of Demerara; his mother died at Sale in 1872 aged 75
Two brothers, William Garnett Macalister and Thomas Mewburn Macalister, were farmers in Gippsland where they died in 1865 and 1859 respectively
The only qualification in the Vic and NSW medical registers is the MD 1851, but the advertisements in the Geelong Advertiser suggest in addition LRCS Edinburgh
His widow was destitute with five children at Bairnsdale in 1874 (AMJ) |
