Notes:
|
Note Dr. Gill's advertisement of 21 February 1839, referring to an earlier one placed by the owner of lodgings in Sydney (see references)
The shipping record reveals a Dr. Gill on "Emerald Isle" as far as Hobart (although the ship continued to Sydney), and a Mr. John Gill on "Wilmot" from Hobart to Sydney. "Emerald Isle" arrived at Hobart the day after "Wilmot" left there for Sydney
How John Gill arrived in Hobart is not known (he did not arrive at Hobart on "Wilmot" according to the shipping records in the newspapers)
His name last appears in the printed NSW medical register iin 1858. He was presumably the John Maunder Gill, surgeon, who died at Moonbi near Tamworth in 1858?
He is not to be confused with John Gill (1823-1899, pastoralist and MP, and a later owner of Moonbi station |
