Dr. Hatch left Melbourne in August 1859 aboard the "Royal Charter" and died in the wreck of the vessel at Moelfre Bay, Anglesey on 26 October 1859 (obituary). A survivor recalled that he assisted women and children when the ship was wrecked (Old Mersey Times website)
His qualification is recorded in the 1853 British medical directory
The SMH advertisement states that when he died he left a wife and children aged 13, 11 and 9. He had made 5 voyages to Australia and was returning to bring out his family |
