|
He was a storekeeper at Ballarat 1853-1855 and in medical practice there from 1856 (Steele)
He amassed a small fortune from his medical practices in Ballarat and Melbourne but found himself penniless in 1874 (ADB)
The daughter who was later to write his fictionalised biography, Ethel Florence Lindesay Richardson (Henry Handel) was born in Melbourne 3 January 1870
He suffered from early onset dementia, attributed by some modern biographers to general paralysis of the insane (caused by syphilis)
After a period spent at Cremorne Private Asylum and Yarra Bend Asylum in 1878, he died in the care of his wife |
